Thomas Prytherch: Cyfarthfa Steel Works at Dusk (1896)
The son of a Welsh ironworker, Prytherch was sent to work at the Dowlais ironworks at the age of ten, where he worked until he was twenty. When Lady Wimborne, the wife of the owner of the factory, noticed some of his drawings, she had him transferred to the engineering drawing office. Later, another wealthy benefactor sent him to the Slade School of Art, where he studied painting. Little else is known about his life. He died in 1926.
